Ultrasonic Hatch Cover, Watertight Door, & MCT Testing

Serene Marine Services, in collaboration with our partner Coltraco Ultrasonics, proudly introduces our latest venture in ultrasonic Water Tight Integrity Testing services. Serene Marine is the sole provider in Ireland offering this invaluable service. Our Portascanner ultrasonic device is meticulously calibrated, and our staff are fully certified to the highest standards.
- The Portascanner ultrasonic device
The Portascanner ultrasonic device operates on the principle of high-frequency sound waves generated by a pulser. Placed inside a cargo hold, tank, or watertight door, the pulser transmits sound waves, while a receiver moved around the opening detects any compression joint or low-pressure areas, uncovering potential leakage points.
While various methods exist for testing Weathertight Integrity on vessels, including hose tests and UST, ultrasonic testing (UST) stands out as the sole method capable of providing measurable results essential for determining hatch cover conditions. This technology revolutionizes loss prevention and structural integrity assessment for hatch covers.

- ultrasonic testing

Notably, ultrasonic testing is the only method recognized by P&I Clubs worldwide for assessing weathertightness in hatch covers. Our experienced certified surveyors, equipped with ultrasonic tests, expertly detect and quantify leaks, reporting results in decibels (dB) and percentage Open Hatch Value (%OHV) to meet Classification Society requirements. With automatic calculations aligned with DNVGL-CP-0484 and IACS URZ17, compliance with industry standards is assured. A hatch cover is considered weathertight when %OHV is less than 10%. This efficient and accurate testing process is suitable for all classes of bulk carriers, offshore structures, and various marine vessel types, offering three operational settings – Decibel (dB), Linear/Numerical, and Open Hatch Value (OHV)%.
Elevate your hatch cover testing to new heights with the precision and efficiency of Serene Marine Services and Coltraco Ultrasonics. Trust us to safeguard the integrity of your marine assets and ensure weathertight performance with our advanced ultrasonic hatch cover testing solutions.
